    2 vice 3 E-2D’s next year :X

Beats the heck out of none, SJS. Looks like the boys down in St. Augustine will still be working, albeit at a slower rate. Critical thing was to not lose that industrial base

  • Hayball

Still headed for a 30 submarine force in 20 years or so.

Airlift is overrated. It’s not like we need to supply anybody overseas in places with lousy supply lines, or far away from any ports or anything.
If we need it we can rent it at insane rates from foreign companies that will always be available.

    Spade:

We’ll never need to get some things or people into a dirt strip in the back of beyond on the other side of the world in a hurry again either.

Or get an airborne division anywhere to check an invasion of an ally until the ships can get to the local port with the heavy metal in a hurry.

Besides the use of military power outside our borders is so …icky.

You missed the 1 USN JHSV in your breakdown.

“Airlift is overrated. It’s not like we need to supply anybody overseas in places with lousy supply lines, or far away from any ports or anything.”

Touche. We have gone from forward deployed, to rapid deployment, and then proceeded to cut strategic mobility. Good plan. Part of the “peace dividend”. Doesn’t “synchronize”, to use the latest lexicon, with the world of “persistent conflict”.

“If we need it we can rent it at insane rates from foreign companies that will always be available.”

Unless the Russians or Chinese will lean on the provider country, and then we won’t find it at ANY price.
