Thanks for sharing SJS! I am seriously giving thought to doing the Midway Island tour next year!

  • Byron Says:

I had a chance to do the one at Mayport last year, with the CNO as the guest speaker. Unfortunately, I had planned a vacation with my wife and could not go. I’m still kicking myself in the butt! Of course, the upside is, I’m still breathing, which I would not be if I had told the wife I wasn’t going ;)

I am a combatant and survivor of the B-O-M- . PLEASE VIEW MY WEB SITE ADDRESS FOLLOWS http://www.karetkamidway.com
In 2005 I ATTENDED THE CEREMONY .NOT AT ANY TIME DID I DISTURB THE CEREMONY. UPON THE CHIEF ANNOUNCING THIS CONCLUDES THE SERVICE.

NO ASSIST FROM FROM ANY BODY. I WAS INJURED .

I SURE WOULD LIKE TO BE GIVEN THE OPPURTUNITY TO GIVE THE PEOPLE MY AYE WITNESS ACCOUNT’S. USN WRITINGS ARE HEAR SAY. THANK YOU.
FLAG’S KARETKA . STILL TRYING FOR THE TRUTH .

  • Telling an old Sub tale: History only helps if we let it! February 8, 2010
Back in a February 2008 issue of Naval History, a piece by Admiral Charles R. Larson (Retired), Captain Clinton Wright (Retired) and Paul Stilwell caught my eye.  The article, “The Sculpin’s Lost Mission: A Nuclear Submarine in the Vietnam War”, details a forgotten patrol by the USS Sculpin (SSN-590).  It is an article that deserves a second–if [...] […]

One of my favorite events at USNI conferences are the book signings.  I had the opportunity to interview several Naval Institute Press authors this year at USNI AFCEA West 2010.  Here’s my interview with Kit Lavell, author of Flying Black Ponies: The Navy’s Close Air Support Squadron in Vietnam.  Talk about history with a purpose [...] […]
