In a memo written in 1947 from CDR Jimmy Thatch to Adm Reeves while at the Naval Air Training Command, he passionately wrote his reasons for the Navy to not enjoin with the newly created Air Force into joint primary training.

And, after seeing the IG report in the Navy Times about how the Air Force will not participate in Joint Naval Flight Officer training after their BRAC move to Pensacola, without any consequences to that service.

Well, maybe CDR Thatch was wise beyond his years.

So, on that note I will have to disagree that the Navy is not the most parachoial of all the services, as in my experience in joint-multiservice training and my time in a joint command, the Navy tends to be too gracious and accomodating.

Specifically:

1. After how many years of doing IA/GSAs for the Army and there still is no MOU between the services on the use of our sailors in these billets by NAVCENT. Allowing the Army to use these sailors not as they were intended. We are too accomodating.

2. The Navy trains over 90% of the USAF C-130 pilots annually, yet we can't get a steady allotment of Advanced Instrument School quotas from the Air Force in return. Again, too accomodating.

3. NFO training as noted above.

With the few examples noted above (I could go on), it appears because of our gung-ho and team mentality we are being taken advantage by our sister services.

Maybe we should follow the Marine Corps Model of Jointness.
